Don't just focus upon your immediate family. 
During a crisis your patients, employees, or students may also have to rely upon you for aid. Additionally, many activities necessary to prepare and protect dependents can only be performed if you join together with several other able-bodied persons to work as a civil defense team. CD teams are more effective when they train together before they are needed.
