There is little reason why you couldn't serve tasty canned food on fine china, artistically paint your water barrels, or entertain yourself by playing a concert-grade instrument. The pioneers did. They knew that surrounding themselves with beauty reduced stress, boosted morale, and enabled their minds to think clearly. Choose items for their durability and functionality certainly, but also for their esthetic value, as they will become a part of your decorations. In a small space, objects with clean lines and happy colors will psychologically make the habitat seem less constricted and far more comforting.
